DivisionCero License

Summary of the DivisionCero License, our own license governing Self-hosting: free Community use, when a paid plan is required and restrictions.

DivisionCero License

DivisionCero Self-hosting is distributed under the DivisionCero License, a custom open-source license created by DivisionCero. The source code is public and you can view, audit and modify it on GitHub, subject to the conditions of this license.

Informational summary

This page is a summary to make reading easier, translated from Spanish for reference. In case of any discrepancy, the full text of the DivisionCero License published with the software prevails.

Free use (Community)

You can use the Community edition at no cost when your organization meets all of these conditions:

  • ✅ It has up to 9 employees.
  • ✅ Its annual revenue is equal to or below 100K USD.

Commercial use (paid plans)

You need a paid plan when your organization:

  • 👥 Exceeds the Community edition's number of employees.
  • 💵 Has annual revenue above 100K USD, regardless of its number of employees.
  • 🔑 Requires exclusive features, such as Single Sign-On (SSO).

The paid license is granted per organization, according to the purchased plan, and remains valid while the plan is active and payments are up to date.

enterprise/ directory

The source code in the repository's enterprise/ directory, and in any of its subdirectories (hereinafter, the "Enterprise Features"), is publicly available for viewing and auditing, but its use is governed by the following additional conditions:

  • 🔐 Subscription-only use: the Enterprise Features may only be run, enabled or used in production by organizations with an active subscription plan whose payments are up to date.
  • 🧩 Scope according to the plan: the Licensee may only use the Enterprise Features included in the purchased plan, such as Single Sign-On (SSO) in the Company of 50+ plan.
  • 🚫 No circumvention: it is not allowed to copy, extract, modify or reimplement from that code, or to disable the license verification mechanisms, in order to use the Enterprise Features without a valid subscription.
  • 🧪 Development and testing: their use is allowed in development and testing environments without production data, solely to evaluate them or contribute to the project.
  • ⏹️ End of subscription: when the subscription expires or is canceled, the Licensee must stop using the Enterprise Features. The rest of the software may continue to be used under the Community edition conditions, if the organization meets them.

All code outside the enterprise/ directory is governed by the other conditions of this license.

Modifications and derivative works

Any modification, adaptation, translation or extension of the DivisionCero source code, as well as any software that incorporates it, links to it or integrates with it in a way that depends on its operation (hereinafter, the "Derivative Work"), is subject to the following conditions:

  • 📖 Obligation to publish the source code: a Licensee who modifies the software must make the complete, corresponding source code of the Derivative Work publicly available, including the build, configuration and installation scripts needed to reproduce it.
  • 🌐 Network use: this obligation also applies when the Derivative Work is not distributed but runs on a server and is made available to users over a network, including the organization's own employees.
  • 📜 Same license: the Derivative Work must be distributed and published under the terms of the DivisionCero License, without imposing additional restrictions on the rights granted here.
  • ⏱️ Deadline: the source code must be published in a publicly accessible repository within thirty (30) calendar days after the Derivative Work goes into production, and kept available while it is in use.
  • 🏷️ Notices: the Derivative Work must keep DivisionCero's authorship and license notices and visibly indicate the changes made and their date.

Failure to comply with these conditions results in the automatic termination of the license granted to the Licensee, without prejudice to any legal action available to DivisionCero.

Organizations that need to modify the software without publishing their source code can request a commercial license with a publication exception from DivisionCero.

What the license doesn't allow

  • 🚫 Circumventing the plan conditions, for example by splitting an organization to stay on the Community edition.
