Inappropriate Content and Unwanted Exposure

Exposure to violent, sexual or simply age-inappropriate content can happen even on platforms designed for children, whether through poorly filtered recommendation algorithms, links shared by other users or misleading advertising. Unlike traditional television, on the internet this content can appear without warning and without an adult present to give context in the moment. Parental controls and content filters help reduce exposure, but don't eliminate it completely, so it's equally important to teach the child what to do if they come across something that makes them uncomfortable: leave the app, don't forward it and tell a trusted adult without fear of being scolded for having seen it.
