Platforms, Apps and Games Most Used by Children

Where children spend time online

To accompany a child in their digital life you don't need to be a technology expert, but you do need to know, at least in general terms, where they spend their time: social networks such as Instagram, TikTok or Snapchat, messaging platforms such as WhatsApp or Discord, and video games with a social component such as Roblox, Fortnite or Minecraft, where they often chat with strangers during the game. Each platform has its own risks: some expose location or online status, others allow direct contact from strangers, and several combine both. There's no need to ban their use, but it's worth exploring them yourself, understanding what privacy settings they offer and talking with the child about what they share and whom they interact with on each one.
