The Digital World of Children and Teenagers
Children's Digital Footprint and Privacy
What digital trail children leave
Every photo, comment or video game match shared online is part of a child's or teenager's digital footprint, a trail that can follow them for years and is often built without them, or their parents, being fully aware of it. That information can be used by third parties to profile them, contact them or even impersonate them later on. As a responsible adult, it's not about banning all digital presence, but about accompanying concrete decisions: reviewing each app's privacy settings together, avoiding posting details such as their school or real-time location, and explaining that what goes on the internet rarely disappears completely, even if it's later deleted.
