Thinking Before Clicking or Sharing

Stop and think before clicking on something

Before clicking a link, accepting a friend request or sharing a photo, it's worth stopping for a moment and thinking, because once you click or send something, you can't undo it so easily, just like when you say something you later wish you hadn't said. A good trick is to ask yourself simple questions before acting, such as whether you really know the person who sent you that link, whether the message sounds too good to be true, or whether you'd feel comfortable showing that photo or message to your family. For example, if you get a message saying you won an amazing prize just by clicking a link, that's almost always a trap to trick you, because real prizes don't work that way. Taking those few extra seconds to think before acting is one of the best habits you can build to browse the internet safely and without nasty surprises.
