Taking Care of My Information

Things I Should Never Share Online

Things you should never share on the internet

There are certain things you should never share on the internet, no matter who asks or how much they insist, such as your exact address, the name of your school, your phone number, your passwords or photos of yourself without clothes or in private situations. Even if sharing something seems like just one more message, once something leaves your computer or phone and goes onto the internet, you can no longer control who sees it, saves it or shares it later, even if the other person promised only they would see it. An example is when someone in a game asks "what school do you go to" supposedly to see if you're at the same one, and although it sounds innocent, that information together with other clues can help a stranger find you in real life. The simplest rule is that, if you're not sure whether something is safe to share, the right answer is almost always to ask a trusted adult first before sending it.
