Regulatory Compliance
How leadership ensures regulatory compliance
Regulatory compliance in cybersecurity covers the laws and standards the organization must respect according to its sector and industry, from personal data protection rules to specific regulations for the financial or health sector, and non-compliance can result in significant fines in addition to the corresponding reputational damage. For leadership, the challenge isn't just delegating this responsibility to the legal or compliance area, but understanding that many regulatory obligations require decisions and budget only senior management can authorize in time. A frequent example is when a new regulation requires incidents to be reported within a strict deadline, and the organization discovers, already in the middle of a real crisis, that it has neither the process nor the designated people to meet that deadline, something that should have been resolved in advance and not under the pressure of an active incident.
