Risks Specific to Smartphones and Tablets

Threats specific to mobile devices

Phones and tablets today hold more personal and work information than any computer, which is why they face their own risks worth understanding. Unlike a desktop computer, a phone is easily lost or stolen, connects to unknown Wi-Fi networks, installs apps from a variety of sources and keeps passwords, photos and emails always at hand. In addition, many apps request location, camera or microphone permissions we rarely review, and the small screen size makes it easier to fall for fake links or misleading buttons we would notice more clearly on a computer. They're also a frequent target of phishing messages via SMS or WhatsApp, precisely because we check them quickly and without the same attention as an email. Knowing these particularities helps you take simple precautions, such as limiting permissions, verifying senders and keeping the system up to date, instead of treating your phone as a device less exposed than your work computer.
