Differences between the iOS and Android Ecosystems
How risks vary between iOS and Android
iOS and Android approach security differently, and understanding those differences helps you make better decisions no matter which one you use. iOS is a more closed system, where Apple strictly controls which apps get into the store and limits each app's access to the rest of the system, which reduces the room for accidentally installing malicious software. Android, being more open and used by multiple manufacturers, offers greater flexibility and customization, but that also means more variety of versions, updates that don't always arrive on time from every brand, and the possibility of installing apps outside the official store, something much more restricted on iOS. Neither is inherently insecure if used carefully, but each calls for a different approach, such as prioritizing the manufacturer's updates on Android or avoiding forcing the installation of apps from outside the store on either one.
