Operating System Updates and Patches
Why keep your phone always up to date
Every operating system update, besides bringing new features, fixes security flaws that attackers already know about and are actively exploiting. When you put off an update for weeks, you don't just miss out on improvements; you leave open a door the manufacturer has already closed for other users. This is especially critical on phones because they usually go everywhere with us, connected to different networks and with access to email, banking and work apps. Turning on automatic updates, for both the system and apps, is the simplest way to stay protected without having to think about it constantly. An important nuance is that very old devices stop receiving security patches at some point, even if they still work fine, so a phone that no longer receives updates represents a silent risk worth keeping in mind when deciding whether to replace it.
