Secure Configuration of the Home Router and Wi-Fi

Basic settings to protect your home network

Your home router is the entry point for every device you use for work, and yet many people never change its factory settings, leaving active the default password printed on the device, which anyone can look up online if they know the model. Changing that password to a strong one, both for accessing the router and for connecting to the Wi-Fi, is one of the most important and least applied settings in homes. It's also worth keeping the router's firmware up to date, something many manufacturers do automatically nowadays but that's worth confirming, and disabling features you don't use, such as remote access to the router's administration from the internet. A practical nuance is creating a separate network for guests or smart home devices, so a connected appliance with weak security doesn't share the same network as your work computer.
