Secure Remote Work Fundamentals

Responsibilities of the Remote Employee

What each person is responsible for protecting remotely

When you work outside the office, much of the security the IT team used to take care of now depends directly on you, and understanding what you're responsible for is key to not leaving gaps uncovered. This includes concrete things, such as keeping your device up to date, using only authorized networks and tools, physically protecting work devices when you leave home and reporting any suspicious sign as soon as you detect it, instead of waiting to confirm it really was a problem. It's not about becoming a security expert, but about accepting that certain everyday decisions, such as where you connect or whom you share a file with, now carry a weight that used to fall on the office infrastructure. Organizations usually document these responsibilities clearly precisely because they know the strongest link in the remote security chain is an informed, attentive employee, not just the technology they use.
