About Base64
What is Base64?
Base64 is an encoding scheme that converts binary data into ASCII text. It is commonly used to transmit binary data over text-based media such as email or JSON.
Common use cases:
- Encoding images in CSS or HTML
- Transmitting binary data in JSON
- Storing credentials in configurations
- Encoding URLs and HTTP headers
- Data exchange between systems
Security considerations:
- Base64 is NOT an encryption method, only an encoding
- Base64-encoded data can be easily decoded
- Don't use Base64 to hide sensitive information
- For sensitive data, use proper encryption methods
