Third-Party Risk Management (TPRM) Framework
What a third-party risk management framework is
A Third Party Risk Management framework systematically structures the entire lifecycle of the relationship with a vendor from a risk perspective, starting with due diligence before contracting, through the formal assessment, the negotiation of contractual clauses and monitoring during the relationship, and ending with a secure offboarding process that revokes access and verifies the destruction of shared data. Adopting a recognized framework, instead of isolated processes created by different areas without coordination, lets purchasing, legal, security and the business areas speak the same language about third-party risk and avoid duplicating efforts or leaving gaps between stages. The absence of a formal framework usually means each area manages vendor risk its own way: purchasing evaluates price, legal reviews the contract and security learns about the relationship once it's already signed, with no real time to influence the agreed terms.
