What to Do If You Fell for a Scam
First steps if you fell for a scam
If you've already clicked a malicious link, handed over a password or made a transfer under false pretenses, acting fast reduces the damage far more than regretting it. The first steps include immediately changing the passwords involved (from a different device if possible), enabling multi-factor authentication if it wasn't active, contacting the bank to block or reverse a suspicious transaction, and disconnecting the device from the network if malware is suspected. Just as important is immediately informing the security or IT area if it happened in a work context, instead of trying to fix it quietly out of fear of the consequences: the sooner the incident is known, the faster its impact on other connected systems or people can be contained.
