Responding to a Social Engineering Attack

Continuous Learning after an Incident

Learning from a past incident

Every social engineering attempt, successful or not, is a valuable source of information about what tactics attackers are currently using against a specific person or organization. Analyzing what made the scam believable, which channel was used and which warning sign went unnoticed makes it possible to adjust both personal judgment and organizational controls for the future. This learning should be shared, within the team or the family, without shame about having fallen or nearly fallen for the scam, since silence only benefits the attacker and leaves others exposed to the same technique. Organizations with the best security culture treat every reported incident as an opportunity for collective improvement, not as a reason for individual sanctions.
