Being Kind and Respectful Online

Treat others well on the internet too

The same rules for getting along that you use at school or with your friends, like not making fun of someone, saying please or apologizing when you make a mistake, also apply when you're on the internet, chatting, playing online or commenting on social networks. Sometimes it seems that, because we don't see the other person's face, words hurt less, but in reality behind every message there's a real person who can feel sad or hurt just like you, so before writing something it's good to ask yourself whether you'd say it to that person face to face. Being kind online also means not forwarding gossip or jokes about other classmates, and if you see someone being treated badly in a chat or game, you can be brave and say that's not okay, or simply tell an adult so they can help sort it out.
