Relations with Regulators, Customers and Partners

How to manage security with key third parties

Maintaining a transparent security relationship with regulators, customers and business partners has become an increasingly frequent requirement, since many contracts today include security audit clauses and regulators require concrete evidence of controls, not just statements of good intentions. For leadership, this means anticipating these requirements instead of reacting when an important customer suddenly requests a detailed security questionnaire as a condition for renewing the contract. A proactive approach is to keep clear documentation of the company's security controls up to date and to communicate progress and limitations transparently to these external actors, because the trust built by answering honestly usually carries more weight in the long run than appearing to have perfect security, which doesn't exist in any real organization.
