Cyber Risk as Business Risk
Why cyber risk is business risk
Treating cyber risk as an exclusively technical matter, delegated entirely to the IT area, is one of the most common mistakes in business leadership, because in reality it can directly affect revenue, reputation, legal compliance and even the continuity of the business's critical operations. A leader who understands this doesn't just ask "how many attacks did we block this month", but "how prepared are we to keep operating if our main system goes down for a week", a question that requires involving the whole organization, not just technology. A clear example is a manufacturing company that suffered a ransomware attack and had to completely stop its production line for days, a direct financial loss that no technical vulnerability report had managed to communicate with the urgency that risk really deserved.
