Coordination with Legal and Communications
Joint work between legal and communications in a crisis
When an incident affecting the brand occurs, the communications team can't act alone, because every published word can have legal implications, especially if customer data is involved or possible lawsuits are at stake. Coordinating with the legal team from the start, and not just at the end to "review the statement", makes it possible to balance the need to be transparent with customers and the need to protect the company from unnecessary risks, such as admitting liability before all the information is confirmed. A practical example is jointly defining, before a crisis occurs, which phrases are prohibited in a statement and what information can be shared immediately, so as not to lose valuable hours of response time debating legal details in the middle of an incident.
