Sending Information Securely by Email and Messaging

How to send sensitive data without exposing it

Sending an email or message with sensitive information seems like an everyday gesture, but small slips, such as mistyping a recipient or using visible CC instead of BCC when sending to several external people, can expose data that should remain confidential. Before sending any delicate information, it's worth calmly verifying the recipient, confirming that the channel used is authorized by the organization, and avoiding writing passwords or full identification details directly in the body of the message. When the content is especially sensitive, many organizations offer encryption tools or expiring links instead of attaching the file directly, precisely because an email can be forwarded or stored in inboxes for years without you controlling it. A simple but effective habit is to ask yourself, before clicking send, whether you'd hand that same information on paper to a stranger on the street, because that question helps gauge the real risk of each digital send.
