Secure Configuration of NFC Connections

How to use NFC payments and connections safely

NFC is the technology that lets you pay by holding your phone near a reader or share information just by bringing two devices close together, and although its range is just a few centimeters, that doesn't make it immune to risks. Since it works by proximity, an attacker would need to be physically very close to intercept a transaction, something impractical in most cases but not impossible in crowded places such as public transport. The practical recommendation is to keep NFC turned off when you're not actively using it, instead of leaving it on permanently, and to always confirm on the screen that a payment amount matches what you expected before bringing your phone close. It's also worth using the operating system's official digital wallets, which add a layer of biometric authentication before completing any payment, instead of third-party apps without that backing.
