Handling Documents and Printing at Home
How to take care of work papers and files at home
Working from home completely changes the environment in which company documents circulate, and it's easy to let your guard down because the space feels private, although in reality family members, visitors or even household staff who shouldn't have access to confidential information live there or pass through. A printed document with customer data left on the desk, or an unprotected home printer connected to the same network other household devices use, can expose information that at the office would be protected by physical controls. The practical recommendation is to minimize printing sensitive documents whenever possible and, when it's necessary, keep them under lock and key or destroy them properly instead of throwing them in the regular trash. It's also worth reviewing the printer's settings, since some keep digital copies of what's printed or are exposed if they have no password, a detail rarely checked in a home environment.
