Tracking the Closure of Findings from Previous Audits

Verifying that remediation was effective

The value of an audit doesn't end when the report is delivered; it's complete when it's verified that the reported findings were actually remediated and not simply marked as closed in a tracking system without real evidence of the fix. This process involves periodically reviewing the status of each action plan, requesting concrete evidence of the implemented change and, for critical findings, carrying out a new technical test confirming that the original vulnerability or weakness no longer exists. In practice, it's common to find administratively closed findings that reappear in the next audit because the fix was partial or temporary, for example a patch applied only to the reviewed server and not to the rest of the equivalent infrastructure. A mature follow-up program keeps a historical record of recurring findings, since their repetition usually signals a deeper structural problem than a simple one-off failure.
