Evaluating the Maturity of the Audit Program
Measuring how consolidated the process is
Evaluating the maturity of the cybersecurity audit program itself means applying to the audit function the same rigor it applies to other areas, measuring whether its processes are consistent, repeatable and evidence-based, or whether they depend on the tacit knowledge of one or two people on the team. Maturity models with levels ranging from ad hoc to optimized and continuously improved make it possible to place the program on an objective scale, considering factors such as the existence of documented methodologies, the use of tools to manage findings, and the real independence of the audit team from the areas it reviews. In practice, this self-assessment often reveals that the individual audit findings are solid, but that the program as such lacks its own indicators, such as the average time to close findings or the recurrence rate, which would make it possible to demonstrate its value and evolution to leadership with data and not just one-off reports.
