Implementing Zero Trust

Common Challenges in Implementing Zero Trust

Frequent technical and organizational obstacles

Implementing Zero Trust faces obstacles that go beyond technology, including cultural resistance from users accustomed to frictionless access, legacy systems that don't support modern authentication or granular segmentation, and the difficulty of maintaining complete visibility over all the organization's assets, identities and data flows. In practice, an especially common challenge is underestimating the effort of mapping the real dependencies between applications before applying restrictive policies, which causes service disruptions when communications that were necessary but undocumented get blocked. Another frequent obstacle is the cost and complexity of integrating tools from different vendors, since Zero Trust doesn't depend on a single product but on coordination between identity, networks, endpoints and risk analysis, which requires clear governance and sustained budget over several years.
