Monitoring and Detection in Cloud Environments

Native Cloud Monitoring and Security Tools

Making the most of what the provider already offers

The main cloud providers include their own monitoring and security services, such as threat detection, continuous configuration assessment and security posture management, which offer a solid foundation without needing to deploy third-party tools from day one. Using them well means deliberately enabling them and tuning their rules to the organization's specific context, instead of leaving them with the default configuration and assuming that's the same as being protected, because many of these tools require explicit enablement and generate considerable noise if they aren't tuned. Their practical importance is that they're natively integrated with the rest of the platform, which reduces implementation friction compared with external solutions and usually speeds up the response to alerts. A common example is enabling a cloud provider's native threat detection service and discovering, within the first few weeks, suspicious activity that had gone unnoticed for months.
