Assessing the Security Posture of the Acquired Entity
Technical security diagnosis of the acquired company
Beyond the initial document review, assessing the security posture of the acquired entity involves a concrete technical diagnosis: an asset inventory, analysis of exposed vulnerabilities, review of cloud configurations, and verification of access and identity controls. This work is usually done in two stages, one before closing with information limited by confidentiality agreements, and another after closing with full access, when it's possible to run internal scans and interview the local technical team. Its practical value lies in building a prioritized risk map that avoids treating an outdated version of an internal server the same as a publicly exposed customer database. A typical example is finding an internet-accessible administration panel without multi-factor authentication, something that rarely appears in the documentation provided by the seller but that an external scan detects in minutes.
