Using Frameworks such as MITRE ATT&CK and the Diamond Model
Frameworks for structuring threat analysis
MITRE ATT&CK and the Diamond Model are complementary frameworks that structure how threats are analyzed: ATT&CK catalogs tactics, techniques and procedures observed in real attacks, while the Diamond Model describes the relationship between adversary, capability, infrastructure and victim in each intrusion event. In practice, using ATT&CK makes it possible to map detected activity against a common industry language, making it easier to communicate findings to other teams and compare your own detection coverage against the techniques actually used by the adversaries relevant to your sector. The Diamond Model, for its part, helps structure each individual incident by identifying which infrastructure the attacker reuses across campaigns, which is key to connecting seemingly isolated events as part of the same operation. An important nuance is that these frameworks don't replace human analysis; they're structuring tools that organize the available evidence, but the quality of the final analysis still depends on the judgment and experience of the analyst interpreting the data.
