Integrating Threat Intelligence Sources
Incorporating threat intelligence into detection
Threat intelligence, whether feeds of indicators of compromise, reports on active campaigns or sector information shared between organizations, only generates value when it's operationally integrated into the SOC's workflow, not when it's filed in a report nobody consults during a real incident. Integrating it well means that an analyst receiving an alert can automatically see whether the IP, domain or hash involved is associated with a known threat actor, which completely changes the urgency and focus of the investigation. In practice, the challenge isn't getting more feeds but filtering the noise: subscribing to dozens of sources without removing duplicates or checking sector relevance ends up flooding the team with low-quality indicators. A mature SOC prioritizes sources specific to its industry and geography, and automates alert enrichment with that intelligence directly within the SIEM or SOAR.
