Organizational Structure and Required Profiles
Key roles and profiles on the team
A functional CSIRT combines technical and coordination profiles: analysts able to investigate an incident aren't enough if nobody manages communication with leadership or external providers. Typical roles include a team lead or manager responsible for decisions and escalation, triage analysts who classify and prioritize alerts, forensic and malware analysis specialists, and a communications or liaison role that coordinates with legal, the press and customers during high-impact incidents. In small teams one person may cover several roles, but it's important to identify them as functions, not fixed positions, so the team can scale without losing coverage as the volume or complexity of incidents grows.
