Reporting Supply Chain Risk to Senior Management
How to communicate third-party risk to executives
Communicating supply chain risk to senior management requires translating technical findings, such as vulnerabilities detected at a vendor or expired certifications, into business impact terms an executive can use to decide: operational continuity, regulatory exposure and reputation. An effective report doesn't list dozens of assessed vendors, but highlights the most critical ones, the evolution of their risk over time and the decisions that require approval, such as accepting a residual risk or suspending a business relationship. Presenting third-party risk with the same discipline as financial risk, through consistent indicators comparable across periods, helps leadership treat it as a strategic issue and not just an operational one. A common mistake is delivering exhaustive, technical reports nobody on the executive committee ever reads, missing the opportunity to obtain the support needed to invest in the program.
