Screen Lock and Biometric Authentication
Setting up a strong lock on your phone
The screen lock is a phone's first and most basic line of defense, because it decides how easy it is for someone else to access your messages, emails and apps if the device falls into the wrong hands, even for a few minutes. A short four-digit PIN or a simple pattern can be guessed or observed relatively easily, while a longer PIN combined with fingerprint or face recognition offers much stronger protection without sacrificing everyday convenience. Biometrics are fast and practical, but it's worth remembering that they work as a complement to the PIN, not a complete replacement, since almost every system asks for the numeric code after several failed attempts or when the device restarts. Also setting the phone to lock automatically after a short period of inactivity, instead of leaving it at several minutes, reduces the window of opportunity if you leave your phone unattended on a table.
