Privacy and Location Settings
Adjusting what information your phone shares
Modern phones collect an enormous amount of information about us, from our exact location to our contacts, photos and usage habits, and much of that data is shared with apps without us noticing. Reviewing privacy settings isn't a complicated technical exercise, but a periodic review of which apps have access to your location, camera, microphone or files, and whether that access makes sense for what they actually do. Location deserves special attention because many apps request it permanently when they only need it while in use, and leaving it on all the time makes it possible to build a detailed map of your daily routines. Most operating systems already let you choose between permanent access, only while the app is in use, or never, and choosing the most restrictive option by default significantly reduces the information you end up exposing without realizing it.
