Updating the Program in Response to Regulatory Changes

Adapting the program when the standard changes

The cybersecurity regulatory environment changes constantly, with new versions of standards, updated interpretive guidance and sector regulations coming into force, so a continuous compliance program needs a formal process to detect these changes and update controls, policies and evidence before they become a gap. This means actively monitoring the relevant regulatory sources, assessing the real impact of each change on existing controls, and prioritizing adjustments according to the compliance deadline and the risk of not adapting in time. In practice, many organizations fail not because they ignore regulatory change, but because they discover it late, when it's about to come into force, which forces rushed, low-quality implementations; a good program assigns clear owners for regulatory monitoring and defines a workflow in which each detected change automatically triggers a documented impact assessment.
