Identity Management in Hybrid and Multicloud Environments

Unifying identity across the cloud and on-premises systems

Identity management in hybrid and multicloud environments addresses the challenge of maintaining a coherent, consistently controlled identity when an organization operates simultaneously with on-premises infrastructure and several cloud providers, each with its own native identity management system and permission model. This matters in practice because without a unified strategy, companies end up with duplicated, out-of-sync identities across environments, where a user deactivated in the on-premises directory may still have active access on a cloud platform that was never synchronized, creating exactly the kind of control gap identity management seeks to avoid. A concrete example is using a centralized identity provider that federates access to multiple public clouds and on-premises applications, so disabling an account in the central directory automatically revokes its access in all connected environments, without depending on each platform updating independently.
