Data Loss Prevention (DLP) on the Employee Device

Blocking the unauthorized exit of sensitive information

Data loss prevention, or DLP, solutions monitor and control how sensitive information moves from an employee's device, blocking or alerting when someone tries to copy confidential data to a USB drive, attach it to a personal email or upload it to an unauthorized cloud storage service. This matters in practice because not every data leak is malicious: a well-meaning employee often copies information to their personal account simply to work from home without knowing the risk it represents, and DLP makes it possible to detect and prevent that behavior before it becomes a leak. A concrete example is a rule that detects a file with credit card numbers or customer IDs and automatically blocks it from being sent by external email, showing the user a warning and logging the attempt for the security team to review.
