Risk-Based Adaptive Authentication
Adjusting access requirements to the context
Risk-based adaptive authentication dynamically adjusts how demanding access requirements are according to contextual signals such as geographic location, the device used, the time of the attempt and the user's past behavior, instead of always applying the same fixed rules. In practice this means a login from the usual office with the corporate laptop might go through with just a password and token, while the same user connecting from a new country and an unknown device automatically triggers additional verification or even blocks access until their identity is confirmed through another channel. This approach is valuable because it balances security and user experience, avoiding the constant friction of asking for multiple factors on every routine access, while concentrating the strictest controls precisely in the scenarios where the real risk of fraud or credential theft is highest.
