Using Threat Intelligence Platforms (TIPs)

Centralizing and managing intelligence with a TIP

A threat intelligence platform, known as a TIP, centralizes the collection, normalization, enrichment and distribution of intelligence from multiple sources, solving the problem of having data scattered across spreadsheets, emails and disconnected reports that no analyst can manually correlate in time. In practice, a TIP makes it possible to deduplicate indicators repeated across different sources, automatically score their confidence level according to configured rules, and connect directly to detection tools to operationalize intelligence without constant manual intervention. A TIP's real value isn't just in storing data, but in the contextual enrichment it applies, such as automatically associating a new indicator with campaigns or actors previously documented in the same platform. An important nuance is that implementing a TIP without first defining clear processes for which sources feed the platform and who validates data quality usually ends in a large but unreliable repository, where analysts distrust the information and go back to verifying everything manually.
