The Organization's Digital Presence and Brand Assets

The digital assets that make up the online brand

An organization's digital presence includes everything that represents it on the internet, such as the official website, social media accounts, mobile apps, registered domains and even mentions in the digital press, and each of these elements is a brand asset that can be attacked or impersonated. Recognizing and cataloging these assets is the first step to protecting them, because you can't monitor or defend what you don't know exists, something that often happens when different areas of the company create accounts or microsites without central coordination. A common example is a marketing campaign that creates a temporary domain for a promotion and then abandons it, leaving a forgotten digital asset that an attacker can claim and use to damage the brand's reputation.
