Managing Reports and Triaging Received Vulnerabilities
Quickly processing what the community reports
A successful bug bounty program depends as much on receiving good reports as on having an internal process able to process them quickly, and this second point is the one most organizations underestimate when launching their program. Triage means quickly validating whether the report describes a real, reproducible vulnerability, consistently classifying its severity and communicating to the researcher the status of their finding within reasonable time frames, usually days rather than weeks. Ignoring reports or taking months to respond is the most common complaint among security researchers and damages the program's reputation within a community where reputation spreads quickly. In practice, many mature programs use a dedicated platform that centralizes communication, automates part of the initial classification and keeps response time metrics visible, because that transparency is precisely what attracts higher-level researchers to keep investing time in finding vulnerabilities for that specific organization.
